I don't really feel the gluten cravings anymore

I guess because I went cold turkey on the no gluten thing I got over the cravings pretty quick. It's really not that hard to cook at home and avoid gluten. When I first figured out that I needed to avoid gluten I thought it was really difficult to find things I could eat, but I guess I'm beyond that. The only real challenge left is that I can't really eat out very easily. I've been eating Royal Blossom Chantaboon Rice Sticks with Kirkland Cibo Naturals Pesto and Freshly grated parmesan cheese to meet my carb cravings.

Successfully went out to dinner last night!

For the first time since I became aware of my gluten issue I've gone out to eat without it being disastrous. We went to Applebee's last night and did the 2 for $20 thing. I didn't eat any of the appetizer, since the only ones I like contain gluten. For my entree I got the riblet basket (riblets aren't on their gluten free list, but the barbecue sauce is) with a caesar side salad (with no croutons). I was totally fine last night, and I've been fine today. It was so exciting eating out for a change.

I'm really craving gluten

I went through the cabinet before lunch and pulled out some of my old favorites that Patty (my wife) doesn't like that contain gluten, so that I can give them away. That went okay, but now that I've eaten I'm looking around the kitchen and am really craving gluten. I'm making this post instead of giving in though, because if I continue to eat gluten I won't get better.

Week 1

I made my first huge mistake this week, I went to Olive Garden. I figured that I would just have a little bit of an upset stomach, boy was I wrong. I missed a whole day of school with how ill I was. I've been eating a lot of corn chips and rice cakes, but that's really not a healthy diet. i need to figure out what I can take to eat for lunch at school and at work, but I just don't know what yet. I've been craving some of the foods I used to eat, so I guess I need to start contacting some companies to find out if their products are gluten free. Update: Bar-S Hot Dogs are gluten free, and it looks like Dennison's Chili is gluten free also, so I guess those are two things I can safely eat. Also found out that Heinz 57 Ketchup and Kraft Original Barbecue sauce are gluten free! This gives me a starting point for some stuff I guess.

A beginning

Our quest begins with... No I'm not going to take that route. I'm a 28 year old college student. There are several people in my family who have auto-immune disorders and/or are allergic to gluten. I've recently started showing signs of being allergic to gluten, and while my test to see if I've got Celiac Disease isn't back yet, I've already noticed that avoiding gluten helps me feel better. As a result of all this I have to make a major lifestyle change in terms of what I eat. That's essentially what this blog will be about. In the process I'll hopefully get a little healthier. I intend to write this as something of a journal, maybe something I write will be helpful to someone, but this is for me.
